There are two species of pilot whales, long- and short-finned. Pilot whales are usually black with a distinctive rounded head and can grow up to 20 feet (6.1m) long according to The American Cetacean Society. They are highly sociable and live in large ‘pods’ of 20-90 individuals.

The narwhal Monodon monoceros is an arctic whale with a tusk sticking out of its forehead like a unicorn horn. According to the scientists at Narwhal Tusk Discoveries the tusk averages 8 feet, or 2.4m, long and is usually only found in the males and is actually an extended tooth not a horn.

The cougar is a member of the order Felis (the small cats) and, therefore, can purr (rather loudly – it’s a bit like a motorbike!). The other three cats are members of the Panthera, or big cats, and as they do not have a hyoid ligament they cannot purr – instead they roar!
